The Widad University College MBBS program has been specifically designed to bring out the best from the 'best' students and to mould them into dedicated, compassionate and holistic physicians who are continuous learners and hold mankind and society close at heart. To this end the Widad University College MBBS curricullum has been specially developed and regularly monitored so as to ensure that the specific program outcomes are achieved by the time the student graduates.
The Widad University College MBBS program is a 5 year program which consists of 2 phases.
Phase 1, is completed in Year 1 and 2 while Phase 2 consists of Year 3, 4 and 5. Phase 1 covers the Foundation Medical Sciences subjects which includes Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology/Immunology, Pathology, Psychology and Public Health/ Medical Epidemiology.
Phase 2 comprises the Clinical Clerkship years wherein the students are exposed to major clinical subjects such as Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Community Medicine, Family Medicine and others while they are required to be in clinical placements in hospitals and health centres.
Teaching and learning activities will comprise of various modalities including lectures, tutorials, seminars, Student-Centred Collaborative Learning (SCCL) sessions, practicals/clinical instructions and practice, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) sessions, report writing and presentations, clinical teaching in hospital wards and clinics, community health postings, community health projects, E-learning using an in-house Learning Management System (LMS) and also use of an E- mentoring system.
Students' progress will be monitored closely and regularly by various Continuous Assessment (CA) methods (class attendance, biweekly quizzes, assignments, presentations, PBL sessions) while Summative Assessments will be done periodically in the form of End of Semester (E-o-S) Exams/End of Posting (E-o-P) Exams and 2 Professional Exams, one in Year 2 and another in Year 5, ie. at the end of Phase 1 and Phase 2 respectively.
On graduation, Widad University College Medical graduates will hold the MBBS certificate which will allow them to be provisionally registred with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and begin their 'housemanship' and 'internship' (presently 2 years) in government hospitals.
Once fully registred and usually after 2-3 years of experience as a Medical Officer they can then either open their own practice (GP) or proceed to any higher qualification in Medicine ie. clicinal specialisations or an academic pathway leading to MSc and ultimately a PhD in a particular area of interest.
